Mr. Phillip Garry Caven of the Pleasant Valley Community of Green County, son of Olyn Caven and the late Marilyn Graham Caven, was born on September 25, 1951 in Green County, Kentucky. He departed this life on Friday, April 21, 2023 having attained the age of 71 years, six months and 27 days.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Mr. Caven served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was an employee of the Green County Road Department, participated in the wood program for Green County, and was a tobacco farmer. Garry was an excellent checkers player, enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching westerns. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Garry will always be fondly remembered by his many family members and friends.
He is survived by his wife of over 27 years, Sandra Scott Caven, having united in marriage of January 12, 1996.
Besides his wife, Sandra Caven and his father Olyn Caven, other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Toree Caven and Steven Peters of Springfield; one son: Jonathon Willis of Pleasant Valley; eight grandchildren: Samantha and Thomas DeSpain, Hayley Montgomery and her significant other Devan Meece, Phillip Peters, Brayden Willis, Alayna Willis, Savannah Grace Willis, Steven Peters and Alley Peters; four great-grandchildren: Camdon DeSpain, Avery DeSpain, Mason DeSpain and Cadience Newby; three special great-grandchildren: Saylor, Anniston and Laikynn; his twin brother: Roger Larry Caven of Summersville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Freddy Scott, Coy and Jennifer Scott, Joe and Jackie Beams and John Scott; special friends: Charles and Betty Milby; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services for Mr. Phillip Garry Caven will be conducted at 1 P.M., Central Time, Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Gupton-Landrum Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bennett Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Marion County Veteran Honor Guard. Bro. Johnathon Willis, Bro. Cole Caven and Bro. Greg Whitlow officiating.
Visitation is requested from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M., Central Time, on Tuesday and after 7 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy are requested to be in the form of donations to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church or the Twisted Pink Organization for Breast Cancer Awareness, both of which can be made at the funeral home.
