Mr. George Edward Smith of Summersville, Kentucky, son of the late Clyde Smith and Eva Mae Irene Leach Smith, was born on March 6, 1940 in Chester, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville having attained the age of 84 years, nine months and 24 days.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Smith served his Country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post 124.
As an engineer, he was employed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and then AT&T. He enjoyed fly fishing and had won awards for cross stitching.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Lorraine and Amedio Matteucci of Greensburg; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Kenneth and Jeannine Smith of Illinois, and David Smith of Florida; five grandchildren: Melonee Wise, Wyatt Smith, Jacob Smith, Rachel Hooten and Christina Smith; four great-grandchildren: Dimitrious Trathen, Liliana Trathen, Bentley Smith and Gunner Hooten; two sisters: Patricia Temple and Myrna Wilbank both of Pennsylvania; one brother: Robert Smith of Pennsylvania; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Ellen Ann Long Smith, on December 25, 1981. He later united in marriage to Gloria Toadvine Smith, who preceded him in death on October 26, 2015. He was also preceded in death by one son: Michael Smith; one daughter: Ilene Smith; and one grandson: Sean Trathen.
Funeral services for Mr. George Smith will be conducted at 2 P.M., Central Time, on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Gupton-Landrum Funeral Home with Rev. Brenson Bishop officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is requested after 11 A.M., Central Time, on Friday until time for the service at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy are requested to be made in the form of donations to the Green County Food Pantry, which can be made at the funeral home.
